National HIV Testing Day – Level up your self-love by checking your status

National HIV Testing Day is an annual event emphasizing the importance of HIV testing.  The CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care.

The theme for 2024, “Level up your self-love: check your status” emphasizes valuing yourself, showing yourself compassion and respect, and honoring your health needs with self-love. Knowing your HIV status helps you and your partner(s) choose options to stay healthy. Testing is the pathway to engaging people in care and reducing HIV transmission, a key pillar of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) HIV/AIDS research agenda, as well as the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) and the Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. (EHE) initiative.

Stay tuned for primary outcomes from ATN 139: Get Connected, a study that engaged young sexual minority men (YSMM) to conduct mystery shopper visits and systemically assess the quality of HIV/STI prevention services, such as cultural competency working with YSMM. Find HIV testing options near you.
